A theatre project that you should watch unfold: Trust Theatre Company. TTC is led by Aja Jones and is gearing up to promote a touring show in 2002. Aja is one of the old time Axxess people, an accomplished actress ("Jones is exquisite!" -John Garcia, TalkinBroadway.com) and a hilarious part of the group of kids that hang out on Wednesdays in Arlington, TX.

Any theatre patrons out there who happen to be reading this blog (that is a stretch I know, but it could happen!) should seriously consider getting involved by supporting the work of TTC...

thanks to everyone who has wished me health! i am feeling A LOT better today thanks to my mad scientist friend and mom. thanks to you both.

so how bad is e.II? well, my 8 year old--without hearing my critique of the film--upon seeing e.II for the first time climbed up on a bar stool across from me and said, "Lucas Films is having hard times, huh?" i just looked at her and chuckled. out of the mouths of babes. then she said the most devastating thing, "Episode I was better than that!" wow. i can't agree, but that is unsolicited critique from one in the demographic that Lucas has been courting with his new trilogy.

in ludere

illusion... in ludere... "in play."

life is lived in play--in illusion.

every "realism" is elements at play. there is nothing we can encounter save illusion. the question is whether we can agree on the beauty and usefulness of our illusions--whether we can walk with integrity with those we share illusions with and with humility and love with those outside of our games.

everything is in play. we are unable to, for a moment, fall outside of the play we are always amidst. in english illusion has for too long carried with it the negative ramifications of words such as hallucination, blindness, deception... the latin enchants us by enfolding our bold, phallic, black and white critique inherent in words such as these into a deeper play of surfaces. illusion can be a dangerous condition, but nothing seems more dangerous than the illusion that illusion can be juxtaposed to reality.

righteousness sequestered in giving,
a life made secret and sacred by gifts,
hands that rejoice in, yet mistake the gift of their partner, for that of another...

We know very little about Yeshuah. Most of his gifts were in secret. Those done before the eyes of the crowds and of his community and those novelized in the pages of an ancient book are not the sum of his life but the surface. The unknowing that filled the life of Yeshuah he spoke of, but would not compromise. He modeled, but would not market. The secrets he kept in the vast reservoir of the unknowing that made up "the bulk" of his life is the mysterious source for the power in which he moved. This active unknowing opened a space in which he encountered unspeakable otherness--YHWH, the tetragrammaton--as Abba. This unknowing and the nearly-secret in which he lived out his life became for him the backdrop for all of his teaching on living well (righteousness)--visiting, clothing, healing, eating with and caring for in the double bind of unknowing--the unknowing of left and right hand and the unknowing of the God who inhabits the stranger, the naked, the imprisoned, the oppressed, the child, the poor, the neighbor, the enemy, the friend, the beloved.

There are things that will not be known about me even by me. There is a way (a habituation of enactment {noeticaction}) in this existence that privileges the secret that never becomes the secret (for there is no one to know that the secret is in fact secret) out of which a life of explicit power and beauty and sacrifice and mission and laughter and hope each moment is born. This gestation in active unknowing is not coerced. It begins in indirection as the unintended, iceberg like unnoticed, quasi-outcome of our enactments.

Let us begin.

monday i threw some food together for some people after a morning meeting. at one point i heard myself say, "This chicken is unworthy of this olive oil." it brought a laugh or two, but caused me to reflect a bit on what makes up the details of life. we call what i was cooking, "chicken," but what made the normal, rather bland chicken flesh i had in the oven a worthy culinary experience was not the chicken. what made the chicken something worthy of the center of the meal was the crushed california blood oranges, the virgin olives and the sweet, diced red and yellow peppers that brought differentiation to the chicken. so i ask myself, what differentiation am i bringing to what too often becomes the normal, rather bland life that i live?

what is the kingdom?

the unintentional dominance of the unassuming,
by the intentional enactment of reversals,
in the transformation and trust,
of giving and forgiving.

the other night amidst the axxess leadership conversation that seemed to consistently recenter around rich, jewish, anime, costco shopping, pyronecrobeastial midget pr0n a new tagline for axxess emerged: Axxess - 100% Pro-Midget Christianity. at least it is a positive self definition...

someone suggested that since, unlike in florida, in texas midget tossing is not illegal we should go to costco and invite some midget friends to our next bar.b.q. somehow willy wonka played into all of this. it was a night of interesting conversation and especially good chalupas.
