December 26th: The Second Day of Christmas
Cataloging the Xmas Shitstorm

In the consumer West we have a tradition of getting what we want. Even those of us who lean more toward BuyNothingDay than the Red Apple Sale tend to find our way to possessing those things that fascinate and fill the need for sustenance and beauty. Given this universal tradition of our time we are all in need of better ownership tools. SmartCommons is the beginnings of an ownership operating system.

This ownership OS has an API (more on that later) that other tools and services can plug into to create new value on the base SmartCommons offering. The first application to utilize this API is the Integration Research application SmartCommons Collection.

Collection is a Windows application that allows households to organize, annotate and track everything from their personal media collections to their lawn and garden supplies. The application works in conjunction with Amazon and SmartCommons web services to provide users with management, reporting and publishing features on their desktop and the option to back up data online providing for easy synchronization between machines. Collection can also be used as a disaster recovery archive in the event a personal inventory becomes necessary for insurance or other reasons after a catastrophic event.

My favorite feature of Collection is its ability to synchronize with my SmartCommons.com collection giving me an offline borrowing record, watch list and personal inventory. I have Collection installed on my Windows laptop and in Virtual PC on my Mac. I have been using Delicious.Monster on my Mac as well and this is one of the features that is really lacking from that otherwise stellar product. Perhaps we can get the DM folks to sync with SC as well. What do you think Wil?

Windows and Virtual PC users: download SmartCommons Collection when you get the chance.

Feliz Navidad
