January 1st: The Eighth Day of Christmas
Resolutions

Another year begins. The eighth day of Christmas comes a day late.

There are a lot of areas that are being improved within SmartCommons as you read this. Birthing is always a messy process. I shudder sometimes when I compare the current release to the one on deck (and all the other stuff in my head). In an effort to assuage my anxiety over such matters I am making this post my New Year's resolution entry.

This year I resolve to like even less the horrific monstrosities called Profiles. Much that is out there that falls loosely under the heading of social software still has a tight connections with FOAF (friend of a friend)/Six Degrees of separation ideas. This is cool, but needs to be heavily evolved. I hope to have some part in seeding evolution in this regard. For now, if you can, please grin and bear the Profile implementation.

This year I want more to do with networks than with nodes. I am excited to see how interconnecting SmartCommons with Flickr, the blogging tools, MapPoint, 43Things and other cool services with APIs can create more value than SmartCommons alone.

Finally, this year I'm dying to see social software (and SmartCommons specifically) interact with how I use my computer currently rather than being a destination on the internet. Tying into my desktop more is the idea. This may be a pipedream, but whaddaya say?

Let's dream a little.
